History

To understand the thinking behind the first aircraft built by Robert Blackburn we need to know something about the man himself and also a little about the History of the Times in which he lived. Robert himself needed to have studied the existing knowledge about the theories of flight but we can also look at the whole History of Flight.

We need to remember that Robert Blackburn and the other great pioneers of flight were often very intelligent, visionary men who were well ahead of their time. Each pioneer was able to develop ideas and build on the work of people who had lived in earlier times. When we step onto our holiday jet to fly off to the sun perhaps we should give a quick thought to all the people who have made this everyday occurrence happen.
