Replica 3

The First Steps

After a small group of people had begun to formulate the idea of  building the replica of Robert Blackburn's first monoplane, a number of steps had to be taken to turn the idea into a practical proposition, we had:

  1. To obtain permission from the management at the Brough site.
  2. To find a location where the replica could be built and the work done.
  3. To put together the team needed to make the project happen.
  4. To acquire the necessary funding. (Funding from BAE SYSTEMS and sponsorship from local companies)

Once these preparatory stages had been undertaken and we realised we could go ahead we had to find people who could actually build the aeroplane.

The table is marked off and work starts on the 1909 monoplane.

Spruce is cut to size and assembly starts on the rear fuselage.

Brackets being drilled and fitted prior to being painted.
