3 Class profile:
The age of the children is 8\9, as they will all be selected from the current Year 4 cohort.
There will be 28 children achieving at level 4 in two subjects plus an aptitude for challenge and multi disciplinary working.
These children are regarded as high achievers within their respective schools.
The group will have a projected gender balance but it is unlikely that there will be an ethnic mix due to the predominant mono cultural situation within the Bransholme area.
4 Pupil identification.
Headteachers agreed to maintain last year’s criteria for selection. DfEE guidance was consulted and unanimous agreement to the following process was arrived at.
Fourteen primary schools will select 2 pupils based on teacher assessment of aptitude relating to the skills needed to successfully undertake the programme of work in the summer school and high achievement in this years Year 4 optional S.A.T tests. Standards expected will be level 4 minimum in at least two subjects. Teacher’s professional judgment of pupil ability will be a strong determining factor in the selection process.
Each school has agreed to nominate one reserve in the case of one of their selected pupils failing to take up their place.
