Planning 3

5 Course content.

A number of key aspects of the EAZ Action Plan ( ICT, basic skills, raising esteem, ownership) have been used as the core of the Summer School programme. The two major foci of the programme are the use of accelerated learning and Literacy.

The next stage in the planning process was lead by the project leader. He arranged meetings with other staff to discuss the possible programme, get their ideas and input and work out how a programme could be developed to best support the learning of the children.

6 Course programme.

As can be seen from the listed objectives the programme is focused on developing aspects of literacy and accelerated learning strategies (2a), but has other broadly based objectives (see objectives). Much thought has been given to the social processes the children will be involved with and therefore activities have been planned to develop social coherence within the group. (2c,f,h,I,j,l,m)

The major outcomes of the work will be a presentation of magic by the children, a radio script and a written article for the ‘Daily Prophet’

Many pupils will have had some access to ICT and the use of the Internet but this project is designed to take their skills beyond those already developed within their primary school curriculum.

The main thrust of the work will be to broaden children’s literacy and oracy by using text to develop role play, poetry writing and performance

ICT will be used as the main recording tool. This will include the use of tape recorder, digital cameras and DTP software. Research will also be carried out using the Internet.

Children will be able to show displays of their work to parents during an open afternoon on the final day of the programme. This will include presentations of magic by the pupils and listening to their radio broadcasts.
