Denford - a design experience

We visited a company called Denford in Brigghouse. Here we used a programs called MillCam and Pro Desktop to design a simple aircraft. Some pupils even designed something to do with their group name. This was our first introduction to the use of CadCam.

As soon as the designs were completed and saved onto a floppy disc the children watched in amazement as they saw their plans actually being created by the milling machines.

After a piece of high density plastic is inserted, the machines cleverly read the floppy disc and begin cutting out slots and lines to make people's aircraft designs.

Pupils and adults couldn’t believe how precise and exact the machines cut the slots so that they fit perfectly and require no glue or anything to make it stable.

It was an amazing day and it was a shame that we knew the next day would be the last of this truly fantastic Summer School.

We would like to thank all of the staff at Denford for being so helpfull and hospitable during our visit to their factory
