Future Aircraft Designs

ProDesktop

During the Summer School we looked at how to make the design for a futuristic aircraft on a computer. Mark Pinchbeck showed us how to do the 3D model using a program called ProDesktop. This is a piece of very powerful software similar to that used by the design engineers at BAE SYSTEMS. It is known as CAD software.

We were able to follow up this work with a company called DENFORD who gave us a super day on Monday 7th August

After the initial input we were able to follow the basic instructions. We used the computer suite and the modelling began.

We created several different profiles and joined them together. This is known as lofting.

This makes the separated sketches look solid. People came up with some incredible shapes, flying wings, looking like bats or some kind of giant ray fish. The first group who finished changed their background and made the aircraft look like it was made from a different material. We did this using the album section of the program to render the image. The end designs looked spectacular.
