Daily Diary by Ben Borthwick, Kayleigh Newby, Jonathan Coultas, Katie Simmester, Jonathan Meekin & Robert Crouch Day 1, Wednesday 26th July Today, 36 students came together at the EAZ Gifted & Talented Summer School, held at Sutton Park Primary school. We were all strangers but quickly got to know each other, especially when we were mixed up and split into groups of six with one adult helper. Stuart Markham, from the Hull Daily Mail, taught us how to write newspaper articles (just like this one), compose photographs for the articles and write captions for the pictures. After lunch, Gary from Trixx, showed us how to perform a wide variety of circus skills. We all had a go, including the adults, and had a great deal of fun trying plate spinning, diabalo, devil sticks and juggling. In the afternoon, we had to sit down and think of a group name. After much thinking (and a lot of putting us off from Mr Holland!) we came up with the name:AERODYNAMIC AVIATORS! Next, we had to come up with a logo. (Some of our designs are shown here) Finally, John Fewings joined us and taught everyone how to count to 10 in Japanese! He also showed us lots of techniques for remembering things, such as mind mapping and body mapping. Overall, we really enjoyed our first day and are looking forward to tomorrows plane making. |
