Marshall & Ricky Jagger Day 1, Monday 26th July
After an introduction by Chris Holland, the Summer School coordinator, we were divided up into 6 groups of 5 students and 1 teacher. We were asked to think of a name for our group, we named our group The Hull Time Travellers. John Fewings, from the TEC (Training and Enterprise Council) introduced himself and asked us to fill in a questionaire on "The Bodily Intelligences". After the break he showed us how to memorise objects by using different points of our body to "peg" objects on. He also showed us how to use mind maps, a pictorial way of remembering things. After lunch we tried our hands at various Circus Skills, courtesy of Trixx, such as juggling, plate spinning and devil sticks. In the afternoon Stewart Markham came from the Hull Daily Mail and gave us some expert tips on writing reports and how to take a good photograph. He taught us in 40 minutes all the tricks, and trade secrets that normally take a journalist 2 years to learn! John Fewings returned to teach us some more memory techniques and mind maps. We are definitely going to need these for our trip tomorrow to the tidal barrier. I can't wait! |
