Daily Diary by Chris Marshall & Ricky Jagger

Day 4, Thursday 29th July

We all arrived bright and early for our trip to Sunderland, courtesy of East Yorkshire Motors, to visit the Stadium of Light.

On arrival we were met by Richard Young , an ex-referee, who was our official Sunderland AFC tour guide.

He told us that the stadium of light is named after the lights on the miner's helmets, this is because the stadium is built on the site of the old Monkwearmouth Colliery.

The two -year old super stadium can seat 42,000 spectators but was designed with future expansion possibilities up to an incredible 63,000, when needed.

We climbed nearly 100 feet (not more steps!) up to the seats at the top of the West stand

and walked along the players tunnel out on to the pitch.

We even sat in the dug-outs

and visited the changing rooms.

Sunderland AFC have a magnificent Stadium of Light and it has given us wonderful inspiration for our design for Hull' Super Stadium.
