Daily Diary by Ben Borthwick

Day 7, Tuesday 3rd August

This morning we all turned into budding journalists as we visited the Hull Daily Mail offices at Blundell's Corner.

We were greeted by Stuart Markham and Carol Taylor who were to be our tour guides around the offices.

Firstly, we were split up into two groups. As you should already know, The Hull Time Travellers are Group 1 so we went into the first group (of course!)

Our guide was Carol who took us to the place were it all begins, the Reception. About 20 people work in the reception and we took a peek at some of them.

We passed through a huge open plan office full of reporters working on the editorial. Lots of people were extremly busy!

Then we saw how the printing plates were made from negatives of the pages. The plates are then taken down to the giant printing presses.

We went into the Press Hall to look at the printing presses. We had to wear ear plugs to drown out the terrible noise the machines made.

The huge rolls of newsprint are definitely not soft but are very, very long!

He told us all about the Hull Daily Mail website, 'thisishull' and showed us some of the many interesting things that were on it.

Then, finally, we went to the boardroom and had a talk with Darren Andrew, the media manager.

What a morning! We put down our notepads and pencils and dropped on the coach seats. But, we still had line dancing when we got back!

We continued with our stadium designs in the afternoon and wrote more of these web diaries.
See you Tomorrow!
