Outside the super stadium there will be lots of different types of transport available.
There is a wide road going to the car park, so it will be easier to get to the car park and therefore people will not have to park all over the place and create an obstacle. The car park holds 12,500 cars, Consellor Doyle said that cars at stadiums have an average of three people in each vehicle, so we will have parking for 37500 people in the car park alone. At Walt Disney World in Florida they charge to park cars and each car park earns $250,000.00 per day! We will do the same to help with maintenance costs.
There are 20 bike sheds and you can get 500 in each, that means parking for 10000 people's cycles. This should encourage people in Hull to use the newly created cycle paths in the City. The best thing is if you live miles away is to allow pleanty of time so you do not miss the match. You do not need to bring a lock, the doors to the cycle sheds are locked at the start of the match and opened at the end with each bike shed having a security guard. We propose a token charge, say, 20p to cover the secuity guard wages and maintenance of the bike sheds.
There is also a bus station which holds 120 buses for supporters who travel a long distance (6000 supporters), and where local supporters can catch a bus to different parts of the city. The bus will always get there and back on time, when the match has finished there will be a bus there waiting for you, its will be a bit like Hull Fair buses with lots waiting and coming regularly. Also, we would limit bus fares to 25p to encourage people to catch a bus rather than use the car. We estimate that the stadium could transport around 15000 people each event this way.
We also decided that a rail link would be an excellent idea, Hull City used to have one and Mr Wong said that it was the only ground in England that had one and it was brilliant. Also, it is another environmentally friendly way to get to the stadium and Mr Prescott our MP would be pleased with it! If in the future there were more environmentally methods of transport such as supertrams or monorails, then this rail link could easily be converted. We estimate that around 12500 could travel using this rail link, 7500 local trains and 5000 people on trains coming directly with away supporters. This would also keep them away from the town centre.
As the stadium will be located outside the City Centre and away from most of the residential areas in Hull, there will be a minimal amount of supporters who walk to the ground perhaps only a maximum of 5000.
As you can see this will allow us to transport in excess of the 80000 capacity of the stadium to each event with a minimal amount of disruption to the surrounding evironment.
Obviously with up to 80000 people, we will need huge areas adjacent to the stadium where people can congregate and meet, so we will have meeting points and we propose to build a massive walkway similar to "Wembley Way" It can fit about 100 to 150 across. We thought perhaps of calling it either the Wyke Way or the Wilberforce Way? Wyke is the old fashioned name for Hull and Wilberforce is from William Wilberforce who abolished slavery and was born in Hull.
With that amount of people, it is essential that we have sufficient toilets, there will be100's of toilets, 1 block in each stand(male, female and disabled.) We will also need to make sure that there are some First Aid centres for anyone who is ill during an event.
There will be pubs, restaurants and fast food outlets located outside the stadium that will be open before and after the match not during the match. There will be other places inside where it will sell drinks and food during the event, but will be in plastic that can be taken out to the seats - but NOT alcohol!!
