The Visit

We wanted to see what kind of experience an overseas visitor would have coming to Hull as a tourist. Many people come into the city using the North Sea Ferry from Rotterdam or Zeebrugges, so we decided to do the journey in reverse, from Hull to Rotterdam and back.

We wanted to see how good a journey it was;

could people find out about the places of interest in the destination ports rather than places further afield?
was the ferry journey enjoyable?
was it easy to get from the ferries to places of interest?
were museums and other attractions 'user friendly' for foreign visitors?

'Norsea' one of four ferries operating from Hull

Our journey began on Friday afternoon. The group gathered together in the waiting area of the North Sea Ferry terminal at Hull's King George Dock. We were all excited and a little apprehensive, most of us had not been on a ship before and certainly not without our parents. Our four adult helpers, Mr Holland and Mr Pinchbeck from the EAZ, Mr Lawson from EMIH Ltd (The Deep) and Miss Smith from Coleford school, all did their best to reassure us. Eventually the time came to board and say goodbye to our parents.

We had to have our tickets and passports checked as we walked through the terminal and into the ship. We had been given our cabin numbers and once on the ship we followed the signs and found our cabins without difficulty. The ship was big, and had rather a lot of corridors in which you could get lost!
