If major initiatives are to be successful within the secondary school we feel it is essential that:
| There is real ownership of the initiative within the school, not just with the headteacher. | |
| The initiative is driven from within the school and supported by the EAZ. | |
| There is someone within the senior staff of the school responsible for the successful implementation of the initiative. | |
| There are people at all levels of the organisations involved in developing and implementing the programmes. | |
| The initiatives are well researched and planned with built in timescales, success criteria, finances and other resources identified. | |
| Partnership working with the LEA, EAZ, DfES, schools, the media and business needs to be developed. | |
| The EAZ can be instrumental in developing new initiatives, challenge or introducing ideas from outside of the local area. | |
| Accountability must be built in at all levels. |
